GREEN CARDS
Employment Green Cards
The employment-based immigration categories are commonly referred
to as EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3. EB-1 includes workers of extraordinary
ability; outstanding professors and researchers; and multinational
executives and managers. EB-2 is for members of the professions
with advanced degrees or of exceptional ability. EB-3 is for
professionals, skilled workers, and other workers. [ LEARN MORE ]
Family Green Cards
A very common method of obtaining permanent residence is through
a family member who is a US citizen or permanent resident.
The key fact in any family case is determining whether a qualifying
family relationship exists. Qualifying relationships are grouped
into two main categories, immediate relatives and other close family
members. [ LEARN MORE ]
Some Other Ways to a Green Card
Investor Visa: The EB-5 immigrant visa category is for those seeking
to enter to engage in a commercial enterprise that will benefit
the US economy and create at least 10 full-time jobs. The
basic amount required to invest is $1 million, although that amount
may be $500,000 if the investment is made in a “targeted employment
area.”
Religious “special immigrants” include ministers of
religions; professionals working in religious vocations or occupations;
and other workers in religious vocations or occupations. These
individuals must work for U.S. nonprofit, religious organizations
or at nonprofit, religious organizations affiliated with qualified
religious denominations.
Diversity Visa (Lottery):
The visa lottery makes permanent residence visas available to persons
meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements.
Applicants for Diversity Visas are chosen by a computer-generated
random lottery drawing. The visas, however, are distributed among
six geographic regions with a greater number of visas going to regions
with lower rates of immigration, and with no visas going to citizens
of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in
the past five years.
