DIRECTOR'S BIO
James O’Keefe, ILG’s Director, has well over a decade
of experience in all areas of immigration law, especially with employment-based
corporate matters. His areas of focus include all varieties
of nonimmigrant visas for foreign workers, the labor certification
process, alternative methods by which foreign workers may become
permanent residents, and Department of Labor and USCIS (INS) audits.
He lectures and writes regularly on immigration issues for national
publications, including those of the American Immigration Lawyers
Association (AILA), of which James is a longstanding and active
member. James is also an Adjunct Professor at the University
of Maine School of Law, where he lectures in his area of expertise.
James has been selected as one of The Best Lawyers in America in the speciality of Immigration Law. For a quarter of a century, Best Lawyers has been regarded -- by both the profession and the public -- as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.
James earned his J.D., cum laude,
from Harvard Law School, where he was the winner of the Ames Moot
Court Competition. He received his B.A., summa cum laude,
from Saint Thomas University and was awarded an M.F.A., summa
cum laude, from the University of Maryland. James is
a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was responsible for
and taught radiation safety and chemistry control in the naval nuclear
power program.
While his practice is decidedly national
in scope and includes clients in virtually all 50 states, James
is admitted to practice law in Maine, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
Prior to founding ILG, James was associated with the immigration
departments of law firms in Washington, D.C., Portland and Boston.
